The Young Musicians' Platform provides talented local young musicians with help to start their musical careers.

Young Musicians' Platform - First Professional Contracts

Plymouth Music Accord has already found placements for sopranos, a counter-tenor, a saxophonist, a violinist, a clarinettist, a horn player, a cellist, an organist, a marimba player, a guitarist, a flautist and even a composer. Apart from using its own funds for this purpose, Plymouth Music Accord has been given sponsorship by the Ballard Trust and the Clemas Trust.

The young people have been found engagements with the lunchtime concert series at Plymouth Museum & Art Gallery, and Duke of Cornwall hotel, the evening recitals at Emmanuel, and as featured soloists with the South West Sinfonietta, the Radio Light Orchestra and Kelly Choral Society. Help has also been given with the purchase of instruments of professional standard.

Auditions take place every other year in Plymouth with an interviewing panel of local musicians and music producers.

The services of an accompanist are provided for candidates who do not have one.

• Peter Cigleris – clarinet
  now a successful solo and ensemble professional musician
• Andrew Maher – horn
  now horn player with the Hallé Orchestra and the Metropolitan Brass Ensemble
• Sarah Jenks – soprano
  now training with Janice Chapman in London, having previously studied at Guildhall School of Music & Drama and the University of Oxford.
• David Cotter – guitar
  Graduated with 1st Class Honours in Music from Durham University and now studying for a Masters at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge
• Ralf Ayling-Miller – organ
  Following studies at Birmingham Conservatoire is now a freelance musician and organist at St Mark's Parish Church, Bromley
• Sehyogue Aulakh - marimba (below)
  After studying music at Wells Cathedral School and Chetham's School of Music, Sehyogue is currently completing her studies at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. She has just been appointed as one of Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra's first BSO Young Associates.
• Samantha Rowe - flautist and soprano
