AROUND PLYMOUTH IN MUSIC AND PICTURES
is a combined book and CD published by Plymouth Music Accord.
The pictures, most made by the Yealm U3A Photography Group plus historic images kindly supplied by local historian Chris Robinson, show places in and around the city from Dartmoor to the sea.
The 14 music tracks reflect the places shown in the book. Some are traditional songs but most items are by local composers: Ron Goodwin, Terence Higgins, Marsha de Thornley Head, Clive Jenkins and Judy Whitlock.
Performing the music are PMA member organisations: Plymouth Symphony Orchestra, City of Plymouth Concert Band and Plymouth Area Police Choir plus solos from Marsha de Thornley Head (piano) and John Gibson (organ).
The accompanying text tells a bit of local history about each of the 14 subjects: Royal Parade, the Hoe, the Eddystone light, the Barbican, St Andrew's Minster, the Mewstone, Drake, the Tamar, St Budeaux Church, Devonport Park, the Torpoint ferry, Fur Tor, Cuckoo Rock and Plymouth pubs.
Profits will help support PMA's educational projects.
AROUND PLYMOUTH IN MUSIC AND PICTURES was published in September 2021.
It is available through PMA Committee Members, at selected concerts and outlets, and is also available online via the PayPal button below at £15 plus £2.50 postage. Purchase of the book also gives access to online MP3 versions of all 14 music tracks.
