Young Musicians' Platform

The PMA helps promising local young musicians to start a musical career. See the success stories so far!

Young Musicians' Internship Scheme

This scheme enables talented young musicians to take a step up and experience playing or singing in adult ensembles, including semi-professional and professional musicians.
The young musician will play/sing in the ensemble’s rehearsals leading to a public performance, and take part in that performance if suitable.
The scheme is administered by Plymouth Music Accord and run by the participating ensembles for qualifying young musicians.

Tuition Project

The project funds musical instrument or vocal tuition in ensembles in secondary schools. Its aims are to enable selected pupils to:-

  • engage in music making
  • engage in the musical community
  • give performances as an ensemble
  • and to develop musicians in the Plymouth area in the long term.

Children moving from primary school to secondary school often face barriers, financial or practical, to continuing with or taking up group music tuition. PMA helps to overcome these. The project has now been running successfully for five years and there are currently some 50 children receiving tuition in four schools. Many in the Tuition Project have successfully achieved GCSE and A levels and a number have gone on to study music at universities and other bodies.

We are extremely grateful to all the tutors and teachers who participate and we are currently looking for further schools to join the project for the next school year. If you teach in a school and would like to enquire further about the Tuition Project, please contact Pete Twyman, our schools’ liaison officer.
